and the payment is sent to the treasurer. Two installments of $100.
each, may be made. For enrollment form, click on the link in
the index.
ORTA monitors legislative efforts on a
year-round basis to represent the retired teachers' best interest in the
Ohio General Assembly. ORTA monitors all State Teachers' Retirement
System committee meetings. Your retirement benefits and your
health care benefits are not possible without the approval of the Ohio
general Assembly and the STRS Board. ORTA is truly the voice of
Ohio's retired teachers. ORTA dues are
$20 a year, and the dues may be paid through GCRTA if desired. A
life-time membership in ORTA is $300 and can be paid over one or two
years. Membership in both organizations is not a
requirement, but it is desirable. DUAL
MEMBERSHIPS are encouraged which permits the GCRTA to have a
TRUSTEE to ORTA.
Requirements for Membership
One must be a retired educator and must receive a retirement benefit
from a state teachers' retirement system. Teachers on
Disability Retirement are also welcome to join both of the
organizations. Associate members may be husbands/wives of
retired teachers or "positive" individuals who are interested
in the education of youth.
Meetings: GCRTA meets at noon for a
luncheon meeting on a quarterly basis. Meetings are held at the Memorial
United Presbyterian Church located on Fairgrounds Road in Xenia, Ohio.
The meetings are informative, entertaining, and social. Presently a meal

Activities:
The GCRTA sponsors a scholarship program for Greene County youth
who exhibit promise in academic areas and who plans to attend college to
become teachers.
GCRTA plans meetings with certified staff in each of the
Greene County School Districts during the school calendar year to share
the benefits of belonging to ORTA and GCRTA. It is the
responsibility of the organization's Retirement Chairperson to contact
each of the districts to set informational meetings. Membership
is critical in both GCRTA and ORTA to maintain and improve
retirement benefits.
GCRTA is also involved in Reading Literacy
campaigns, protective and safety programs and an active legislative and
advocacy program.
